Span House

This Span house in Blackheath, South London is typical of the small development housing designed in the late 50s and 60s by Span Developments and Eric Lyons who was the subject of a recent RIBA exhibition.

The house contains many original features but has been updated with extensive reworking including new kitchen and bathroom design and sensitively integrated custom made furniture in addition to classics from the era. The building benefits from fully glazed elevations to the front and rear ground floor which blur the boundaries with external gardens, bringing in plenty of natural light.

Integration of these houses into the equally well considered landscapes was a unique and key feature of this radical housing concept of the period.
